Folk Music

I fell in love with dulcimer and folk music as a child. My grandmother and grandfather were both very musical and picked up the dulcimer after they retired.

Every dulcimer is handmade and unique. Dulcimer builders develop signature styles and wood combinations that they feel show off the best qualities of the instrument. There are currently five instruments in my personal collection, and I cherish each one.

Journey Songs EP

On Journey Songs, I play a Blue Lion dulcimer made of cherry wood. Janita and her husband approach dulcimer making from the lens of guitar craft, and they do a remarkable job elevating their dulcimers into something truly sublime.

Journey Songs includes:

  • Wayfaring Stranger
  • Lord Lovell
  • Lark in the Clear Air
  • Parting Glass

Bonnie Noel EP

Robert Mize built the instrument I play on my Christmas album. Mize was a traditional builder from Tennessee. The instrument I own is made of andiroba wood, which brings warmth and resonance to his traditional style of building.

On the Christmas EP, you’ll find:

  • The Cherry Tree Carol
  • Good King Wenceslas
  • Silent Night
  • On the Nativity of Christ
  • The Holly and the Ivy
