Christmas music EP with dulcimer + vocals

My EP of Christmas music is available for free on Bandcamp this month! Enjoy dulcimer music and vocals with classic arrangements of:

  • The Cherry Tree Carol
  • Good King Wenceslas
  • Silent Night
  • On the Nativity of Christ
  • The Holly and the Ivy

These songs come from many years ago, but they are as bright and cheerful as ever. I updated the cover art this year and I think it reflects the folk roots of dulcimer while still being modern and fun.

Dulcimer built by Robert Mize

The dulcimer used in this recording was made by Robert Mize, who was featured in the Foxfire books on Appalachian traditions. My dulcimer is made from andiroba wood. This is an unusual choice for a dulcimer. Andiroba trees grow in Central and South America. Most dulcimers feature wood from walnut, maple, cherry, poplar, or spruce.

However, as you can hear from the recording, the instrument has an incredibly big, warm sound while still sounding traditional.

I had the honor to know Mr. Mize from the annual dulcimer festival held at the Unicoi State Park lodge. He was very kind and a skilled craftsman. Some of my favorite dulcimer memories are spending time sitting with him at his booth and playing dulcimers he’d brought to sell while he polished up my dulcimer and put on new strings.
